Aziel Update
A few people told me they want to hear more about Aziel and that we should update more often. Fair point. I hope WildTiger will contribute soon too.
I’m about to leave on a week-long holiday so this’ll be very brief.
We went back to using XNA because of the previously mentioned issues with OpenGL. I knew it was over when I got confirmation on the official OpenGL forums that its not to be used for the consumer desktop (its only really useful for higher end gaming and engineering applications).
We’ve been putting a lot of work into a framework for defining and using resources, the design goal is as stated before, to allow user extensions to define new full featured resource types. More on this later. The current challenge is reading/writing resource data without each resource explicitly defining a save/load mechanism. Serialization in .net 2.0 falls short of this.
Once that’s finished, I hope to create some rough resource definitions for things like scripts and images, a rough compiler, and have a runnable build online so we can reopen discussion.

Finally. I was about to think this blog was dead.
Or even worse, Aziel 0-0

Looking nice so far.
Do you have some sort of estimated date for a runable build of it, tho?

Hello there,
I would like you to read this article, read the whole of it. Then if you have the time check the links.
Then reconsider going for OpenGL (and Linux/Wii/PS3/et.c.) support. Linux is really a growing market, it grows a speed directly proportional to the numbers of `enlighted’ people there is. ( maybe awakend might be a better word, non-native to english. )
Soon I will go the path of really make my site up-to-date, put a blog on it, develop a game for Linux ( as it is probably easier to port it to inferior platforms later – just kidding
Then I will make a windows version and try to get it onto Steam. I have already spoken to the Valve people – what a hilarious bunch of guys
They just did not like the idea of giving acces to Steamworks before I’ve even started deving my game – probably a strategy of deferring non-serious people from the platform. But they welcomed me back when I have a 90% game to show them.
Well, anyhow if you go for xna you limit your customer base to those who use MS products – look a the plethora of other platforms out there!
- Best regards, Frank.

@Frank
Too bad that about 90% of all people that own a computer own a microsoft computer, excluding businesses (that usually have IBM O/S)
The main reason that those 10% don’t use microsoft is because they hate it: Well, sorry, but they need to choose between software support and operating systems…Software wins.

@Frank as p4tr1ck said 90% of all people who own a computer run one of the versions of Windows and the others mostly use Mac. Linux’s market will never beat Window’s market for the fact most games run on DirectX because it is a lot more powerful the OpenGL and it is easier to port the code to Xbox with DirectX
